Day 8 Sun, July 4: KNOCK SHRINE & MACKIN BIRTH AREA SIGHTSEEING

This morning travel through Claremorris to the pilgrimage town of Knock.  Celebrate Mass at Knock Shrine, one of the world's leading shrines where the Virgin Mary appeared to 15 people on August 21, 1879.

Then set out for a visit to the birth area of Elizabeth Gordon in Roscommon, Ballaghaderreen and Castlrea.  Return to your hotel in Westport where the Mackin Family will continue on to the birth area of Mary Mackin with a stop along the way.    Westport, Carrowtootagh, Islandeady and Curragushlane, all in Mayo, are the recorded areas for Mary Mackin, while Roscommon is the County of Elizabeth Gordon’s birth.  Those not related to the Mackin Family may go along or enjoy some free time in Westport.   Return to your hotel and freshen up before dinner.

Day 9 Mon, July 5 Connemara lady cruise, celtic crystal & kilkee

Depart Westport and travel through the Connemara region to admire the sweeping views of boglands and misty mountains. As you drive along you will see many sheep that graze freely and also tracts of bogland where some people hand-cut peat for home heating. View Kylemore Abbey, a 19th century neo-Gothic mansion overlooking Kylemore Lake. Originally a private residence, it is now a prestigious girls' school.

At Leenane, stop to take a short catamaran cruise aboard the  “Connemara Lady” through Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. You can see great views from this narrow inlet, which is surrounded by hills and cliffs. Also observe the seabirds, seals and otters that live in the waters.  After your cruise continue your drive to the town of Moycullen to visit the Connemara Celtic Crystal Factory. This family business specializes in designs based on the shamrock, Claddagh ring and harp, often in colored crystal.  Watch a craftsman demonstrate the cutting of designs and see the full range of products in the showrooms.  Then drive around the shores of Galway Bay and southwest to the coast of Clare to your hotel in Kilkee.  Enjoy some time to settle in before joining your group for dinner.
